More than 2,000 years ago, the Stoics practiced therapeia, the foundation of today’s leading evidence-based treatment for anxiety: cognitive behavioral therapy.

What it means to be a Stoic leader

When people hear the word ‘stoic,’ they often think of someone who swallows their emotions.

Stoic philosophy, however, involves cultivating healthy emotions and managing unhealthy ones.

Stoic leaders get curious about emotions like anxiety, instead of reacting against them or stuffing them down. This self awareness sets them free.

Once Stoic leaders understand most worries are just stories they tell themselves, they move forward. They focus on what’s in their control to meet the goal. They act and bring people along.

Stoic leaders listen to and are loved by their teams. They communicate clearly, collaborate, and make decisions. Shiny objects and other people’s opinions don’t distract them.

Stoic leaders feel less stress and overwhelm because they’ve shifted the thought, “What will people think?” to “How can I serve?”

Hi, I’m Sarah, a writer and a coach who helps introverts communicate with calm confidence

In the corporate world, I helped some of the most recognized brands in the world share their message. But I didn’t feel confident sharing my own ideas until I discovered the Enneagram, somatic work, and Stoic philosophy.

Today I use these tools to help my clients transform into Stoic leaders who communicate effectively, inspire their teams, create cultures of openness, and increase profits and performance.
